How can I cite an AI generated image?
Answer
There isn't just one right answer, but the first step is always asking your prof/tutor/check for rules about this in your course or assignment.
We do have a guide on using AI you can find here: https://libguides.athabascau.ca/artificial_intelligence
If it is allowed in your assignment and you decide to use AI generated images, they must be appropriately acknowledged.
- APA has not made an official statement on citing AI generated images. Like with most citations/acknowledgements more is usually better. Including the prompts is a good process to use. There are some good examples for images here: https://www.wlu.ca/about/governance/senior-leadership/vice-president-academic/assets/resources/transparency-for-generative-ai.html.
- Here is an FAQ we have on acknowledging the use of AI in an assignment.
In addition to an acknowledgement of use you will want to actually cite the image as well. There is not a consistent rule about this but the JIBC has it formatted (see #2): https://libguides.jibc.ca/apa/artificial-intelligence
