How can I get an article in full text from a citation, or if the Discover full-text link is not available?
Answer
There are 3 ways you can access articles in full text:
- Journal title search
- Database search
- Interlibrary loan (ILL) request
Journal title search
Instructions explained in the video above:
- Look at the citation for the article. Note the date of publication, article title, title of the journal, volume, issue number and page range.
- Enter the journal title into the journal title search.
- Select the database containg the journal title.
- Select the publication year, then the volume and issue number.
- Scroll through the list of article or search for the journal title using Control + F.
Database article title search
Instructions explained in the video above:
- Look at the citation for the article. Note the date of publication, article title, title of the journal, volume, issue number and page range.
- Enter the journal title into the journal title search.
- Select the database containg the journal title.
- Some databases that require login information might not connect directly to the journal. For example, HeinOnline.
- This is when we can try searching within the specific database. Go to the databases list and search the title of the database. Click on the hyperlink to access the database.
- Then do a search of the article title. Put double quotations ( " ) around the article title - this will help focus the results to only the article title. For example: "Article title"
