Discover (EDS) problems

Answer

There are known issues with EBSCO's Discover (main library search bar) that are resulting in users getting blank pages, Bad Requests, etc.

The library is working with the vendor to rectify this issue. In the meantime, please see the following work arounds.

  1. Discover-- If this is happening when you run a search from the main search box on the homepage, this search has been causing some intermittent problems for the last while so your best bet is to run through our workarounds:
    1. Make sure you are logged out of any other library logins you use
    2. If this does not work try a new “private" or "incognito" mode
    3. Then try clearing your cache and cookies.
    4. Make sure you are going to the library website directly and not trying to enter it from one of your course websites.
    5. Try clicking the link a second time or run the search a second time
    6. Try a different web browser, different platforms work better on different browsers so sometimes trying Chrome, Edge and Firefox can be useful.
    7. Make sure the browser you are using is up to date.
  2. Alternative searches – Because it is only the main search box that is having issues, you can use another database. If you are wanting to use another interdisciplinary database we recommend ProQuest Global (here is how to access it). If you are really wanting to search all the EBSCO databases and want to avoid the error you can search all the EBSCO databases we subscribe to here (reminder to open in incognito mode).
  3. If an article’s full text link is broken – If you are unable to access an article's full text (i.e. using “access now” or “full text finder” ) take a look at the FAQ: How can I get an article's full text if the link is broken.

Please let us know if you continue to experience access issues and include:

  1. which browser you are using, and
  2. from where you are trying to access the resource, you can include hyperlinks and screen shots so we get the idea (e.g. the Digital Reading Room, a library database, etc.). If you are still experiencing issues with accessing articles or conducting searches, please contact the library at  library@athabascau.ca.
